February 2008

From Frank Taylor
WELCOME to the 2008 Wrestling season for USA Wrestling in Wyoming.

Thanks to Kevin Dillon’s help we are finally getting this web page up and running.

If you have not heard by now we the board have decided to quit telling the clubs which style of wrestling they have to do and when. We will let the clubs decide what kind of tournament they want to host ( Greco/Freestyle/ Folkstyle or others that are sanctioned by USA wrestling). My hope is that we will not see a significant drop in the Greco/Freestyle involvement. Some ask how important are these styles? Ask Rulon Gardner. The Olympics wrestle these two styles! The rest of the world wrestles these two styles!

Also, each year we struggle with the dates for the WAWA State Tournaments. This year we voted to have Jr. State 1 week after High School State each year. State Folkstyle will be held 1 week before Kids National Folkstyle each year. Bids to host these two tournaments will be due at the winter meeting. Then by the end of November we will know where and when the 2009 WAWA State Tournaments will be. Hopefully this will help all plan their wrestling season a little better.

This year Cheyenne and Lander put in bids for these tournaments. Lander was chosen due to their central location. Thanks Cheyenne for your hard work on the bid.
Feel free to contact me any time to discuss Wyoming wrestling.

Proud Grandpa 2x Frank
